What Happens When an Ancient Myth Refuses to Remain a Memory?

Introducing the Dream Lab Podcast Series.

The journey has officially begun之梦的旅程由此开启。 I am thrilled to share that the trailer for my brand-new podcast series, Dream Lab: Echoes of the Dragon, is now live on all major audio streaming platforms.

This podcast is designed to serve as the definitive intellectual companion to The Dragon Dream album project. For a long time, I have watched traditional music conservatories teach sound. In that framework, notes are handled almost like structural bricks or architectural units, meticulously piled atop one another. We are trained to constantly look for the point of the phrase, waiting in anticipation for the climax or the final structural resolution.

But on Dream Lab, we don’t just listen to music; we deconstruct it entirely. We are stripping away the thick layers that separate ancient, primal resonance from avant-garde electronic innovation. To truly enter this laboratory, we have to temporarily set aside that rigid architectural mindset and adopt an ontology of resonance deeply rooted in classical Chinese metaphysics.

What happens when an ancient myth refuses to remain a memory? On Dream Lab: Echoes of the Dragon, we don’t just listen to music—we deconstruct it. We are stripping away the layers between ancient resonance and avant-garde innovation, exploring where traditional Chinese heritage meets the edge of the unknown.

Behind every single track on the Dragon Dream album, there is a complex tapestry of stories, a dialogue detailing a composer’s specific creative vision, and a performer’s deeply personal physical experience. Spanning five continents, this series explores the intricate “insider secrets”, the Méndàor (门道儿), where musical technicality collides with a culturally rich, intellectual challenge. It is the precise threshold where the dragon wakes between the silence and the sound.

In our inaugural episodes, we will actively examine the historical, cultural, and philosophical underpinnings that house this project. We will look back roughly 2,400 years to a transformative era in human thought, drawing from the naturalistic, egalitarian frameworks of the philosopher Zhuāngzǐ (庄子) and the doctrine of Tiānlài (天籁), the true Piping of Heaven. We will shift our focus entirely from a mindset of construction to a vibration of pure being, treating our instruments not as tools of production, but as mirrors reflecting our spiritual states.

A Global Dialogue: From Soundlessness to Sound

Every session we conduct inside the lab brings something vital back from the dream world. Whether you are a fellow performer looking to find native paths into East Asian soundscapes, an enthusiast fascinated by classical philosophy, or a listener eager to hear the behind-the-scenes realities of executing a multi-continental commission project, this space is built for you.

The Dragon Dream album is available for purchase and streaming right now at markcustom.com, Apple Music, and Spotify. But the analytical journey, the deep deconstruction, and the philosophical awakening start directly with this audio series.

I invite you to listen to the trailer now, step behind the scenes with me, and hit subscribe on your favorite podcast platform to capture every single discovery as it unfolds.
